Slightly delayed recap from us here at Towns, but a couple of us on the team left with a party favor (covid) that really sucked us into the void for a few days.
--
As is customary this time of year, a few of us headed up to the idyllic hills of Idyllwild, CA for the crypto panic FWB fest this past weekend.
Here are some fractured thoughts that I put together in my covid-induced haze:
Instantly ran into some old friends from SF and spent the next couple of days tuning into some panels (s/o to Daisy at Dirt and Trevor at FWB for hosting two particularly stand-out convos imo).
There’s this interesting thing that happens at a very irl event with very online ppl and it seemed like everyone I met - at some point - needed an introvert break to recharge their batteries. Being in this relatively remote, mountainous area in the woods felt like the perfect backdrop to dip in and out of crypto consciousness.
I thought it was great overall. A very specific culturally connected crypto community gathering in the woods.
I got a tattoo from co:create that I only kind of regret.
Other than that…super fun time. I spent like 2 hrs smoking cigarettes and hanging with Coinbase’s security team, talking about life, love, and the internet.
I think we went into the weekend without expectations and we came away with something pretty material - a new way of thinking about how we talk about Towns. We left with fresh instincts for how to communicate our core value prop - Towns lets you create permissionless group chats for your people. Gate by whichever use case you’d like to see - what if you could gate the 100 best crypto hacks and have those people brought together in a Town and only the people who pulled off those hacks had write access - and everyone else could read. Would you want to be a part of that Town? Could be cool.
Softt put on a really good show with Refraction. I might dip and become a groupie. Follow them around on tour for a bit.
So was catching covid worth it? Fuck yeah.
See you next summer :)
