Growing up, we had a clubhouse in the backyard. A treehouse we built in the woods one summer. We called it TreeHouse Club. THC for short. We thought we were being clever. Trying to pull one over on the parents. Even if it seems silly in hindsight, I think we were tapping into something pretty real. Everyone wants a space they can call their own, where no one can tell them what to do, where they can be themselves. We did what all kids would do in a clubhouse as kids, and we smoked what all high schoolers would smoke in their aptly named clubhouse as we got older.
What we’re building with Towns is essentially the same thing: your community hangs out in a place that’s built for them. And gets full ownership of the club they’re building. We’re all looking to belong to something greater than ourselves and we’re all looking for access to places that reflect our values. Those feel like immovable social truths. So what could that actually look like in Towns? What kind of clubs are we imagining?
We envision spaces for sneakerheads, gamers, worldcoin users, and music fans popping up on Towns. Kind of like a Discord server that you own and can grow in value as the community grows. Your club could be based on a specific genre of music, and in order to get in, you’d have to show proof of interest (like a Ticketmaster concert NFT, for example). Talk with people who actually go to the shows and are into the artists as much as you.
We’re creating intimacy on the internet by increasing trust. You could create a group for Nikes, gated for NFT-carrying members, where people are as obsessed with trading sneakers and collecting rare merch as you are. Build a Town for events in your city. To come to the events irl, people have to show proof of being part of the Town. Kind of like a Soho House that has transferable membership. It’s still exclusive and vibrant, but the club is owned by the people. That feels like an actual community. An intimate group. Dip in and out. Whatever suits your interests. Like a real clubhouse. BYOC.

Joined the beta, really wanted to try out making my own space. But I can't write any messages in it and I can't invite anyone. Do you have a support chat? Since I see that I'm not the only one with this problem.
